As part of the CSW68 in New York, WIPC is organising a session on “Feminist Perspectives on Socio-Economic Post-Conflict Recovery and Peacebuilding,”. This session will delve into critical intersections between poverty, women’s socio-economic empowerment, post-conflict recovery, and peace-building efforts in regions marred by conflict and fragility.
Despite the widely acknowledged contributions of women and girls to the social and economic advancement of their communities and nations, their experiences often remain unchanged in post-conflict settings. The Beijing Declaration and Platform of Action, along with other women’s rights frameworks, underscore the grave human rights violations faced by women and girls during and after conflict, highlighting the enduring impact on their well-being.
In response to these challenges, it’s imperative to rethink women’s socio-economic empowerment strategies, placing greater emphasis on enhancing livelihoods, implementing targeted economic interventions, and providing reparations for survivors of violence in post-conflict communities.
